Glass at Central
This book brings together the recollections and achievements of postgraduate students of the glass department at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London (part of the University of the Arts London) during the 25 years prior to the course closure in 2011, after 115 years of continuous activity. The book is a tribute to all the students and a record of the considerable achievements of so many alumni and tutors from 'Central' in the world of glass art. Students on the course were taught over the years by Patrick Reyntiens OBE, Professor Amal Ghosh, Adelle Corrin, Caroline Swash, Helen Maurer and Hildegard Pax alongside many visiting artists and practitioners.

The book presents the rich and varied work in glass by over 110 alumni in highly illustrated and inspirational entries on 204 pages, showing finished project work ranging from architectural glass projects to sculpture, from art installations to functional glass and tableware.

Flameworking: Creating Glass Beads, Sculptures & Functional Objects
by Elizabeth Mears

From a technical perspective, this is a great how-to on flamework. Mears details many useful projects which, if mastered, can give the student a solid background from which to create more artistic and creative items.

Some of the discussion on tools, a studio and other equipment is vague - she glosses over specific tools, deferring instead to the old "check with your supplier" for info on torches, tools and other items.

A solid buy at this price, even better if used. She includes a section of work being done by artists around the world that really showcases both the full capability of torchwork and the creative ways in which torchwork is being used with other formats - blown glass, fused glass, painted glass and more.

Creative Glass Techniques: Fusing, Painting, Lampwork
by Bettina Eberle

From Library Journal
Here is a manual for three specialized techniques in working with glass. Fusing, the joining and shaping of two glass pieces, and painting, the surface decoration of glass objects, both require a small glass kiln. Lamp work is shaping done with a soldering kiln. The projects here are chiefly for flat objects such as plates and hollow glasses or vases. Each project has a list of materials, instructions, and color photos of processes, including the finished item. Since so many of the available glass books deal only with stained glass, it is refreshing to have one with projects using clear glass that can be embellished by the crafter.

Contemporary Warm Glass: A Guide to Fusing, Slumping & Kiln-Forming Techniques
by Brad Walker

Reviewer: Paul A. Tarlow from Cedar Park, TX United States
I own a stack of glass kiln-working books (including all of Lundstrom's). Many of them are very good.

None, though, can touch Walker's book for easy-to-follow, comprehensive coverage of this topic. All the basics are covered with clear step-by-step instructions and just enough science and background to make it all make sense.

If you're thinking about getting into warm glass work then start here.

Advanced Fusing Techniques
by Boyce Lundstrom

5 out of 5 stars Great techniques for advancing in fused glass., February 23, 1999
Reviewer: A reader from Texas

The author begins with Bas Relief and ends up with technical information of suppliers, anneal charts, firing schedules using Bullseye glass. In between he covers the glory hole, stringers, enamels, lusters, design techniques and problem solving. These are not cursory discussions but detailed information needed to be successful in doing advanced work. A wonderful follow-up to his first work.
